Kinesiology taping for blocked breast ducts

Breastfeeding should be a joyful experience; however, issues may arise such as: engorgement, blocked milk ducts and mastitis, making breast feeding a painful and stressful experience.

In recent years, research has found a gentle yet innovative solution: kinesiology taping. This technique, originally used by athletes to support muscles and joints, has found a new application in providing relief for blocked breast ducts.

How does kinesiology taping work?

  • Your physiotherapist will apply the tape in a specific pattern around the affected breast area. The tape gently lifts the skin and underlying tissue, creating space that can help reduce pressure and inflammation around the blocked duct.

  • The tape's elastic properties promote blood and lymphatic circulation in the affected area, promoting faster resolution of the blocked breast duct.

  • Best of all, kinesiology tape provides continuous support to the breast without restricting movement, allowing breastfeeding mothers to continue nursing comfortably.
