Physiotherapy Pilates for Diastasis Rectus Abdominal Separation (DRAM)

Updated: Aug 12, 2024

Diastasis Recti – a common condition particularly post-pregnancy, is due to the separation of the abdominal muscles, specifically the Rectus Abdominis muscles, which run vertically down the front of the abdomen. This separation creates a gap that can weaken the core and lead to issues such as lower back pain, pelvic instability, and an appearance of a mummy pouch (protruding belly).

It is never too late, or too far past your last pregnancy to address a diastasis! While exercising post-partum may sound daunting, physiotherapy Pilates offers a gentle yet effective pathway to re-activate and strengthen those abdominal muscles.

Physiotherapy Pilates stands out for it’s tailored approach to rehabilitation and strengthening, particularly for individuals dealing with multiple conditions like DRAM with a background of previous injury (e.g. back pain, wrist and neck pain).

During your Pilates session, your physiotherapist will create a comprehensive rehabilitation program focusing on pain relief and muscle activation/strengthening. With each session, you’ll feel stronger, more aligned, and increasingly confident in your body’s ability to heal.

Be gone mummy pouch!

Our physiotherapists are looking forward to help you in your journey to pre-pregnancy fitness and recovery. See you soon 😊
